Seattle’s Pacific Fishermen, Inc. shipyard has finished upgrades to the 122’ king crab vessel OCEAN FURY for long term charter to NOAA NMFS for debris removal along the reefs and atolls from the Midway Islands to Hawaii. Additions include a 5-ton Goodman air conditioning unit and a 600-gallon per day Village Marine Tec reverse osmosis watermaker. The charter will support seven scientists and divers with a crew of four skippered by long time Captain Bob Watson.

The OCEAN FURY was built in 1977 by MARCO Shipyard for Stan Hovik, Marvin Stone and Einar Pedersen to participate in the then lucrative Bering Sea king crab fishery. Lengthened in 1991 to 122’ by Dakota Creek Industries, the vessel has been maintained by Pacific Fishermen with routine dry-docking and maintenance under manager Mike Stone’s direction.
